Anahi Ocampo-Melgar and co-authors Jorge Gironas and Aida Valls explore the result of divergent opinions during the planning process of mining project in Chile.

Anahi Ocampo Melgar entered the ALRS PhD program in the Fall 2009 semester.  She completed her Master in Science research work on “Dynamic water balance model for the management of Natural Park of Hondo, Alicante,” Department of Ecology, University of Alicante, Spain.

Dr Susana Bautista, Profesora Titular de Ecologia, Universidad de Alicante strongly endorsed her application to ALRS by citing Anahi’s skills in scientific research as:

“Ms. Ocampo is an environmental engineer with experience in using spatial planning, system analysis, and multidisciplinary approaches to solve problems of resource management and rural development. She has conducted research on rural development and management of water budgets. She developed her MSc research work in the CIHEAM and the University of Alicante in collaboration with colleagues and professionals from different countries, proving a great ability to communicate and to work in multicultural teams.”

Anahi’s dissertation research was a follow through of her previous work - Participatory multi-criteria assessment for monitoring actions and support decision making to combat desertification in the San Simon Watershed (Arizona) 

Anahi now resides in Chile with her family, where she continues exploring tools and approaches for dealing with environmental management and sustainability challenges.
