Best Paper of Ecology and Society Award

Stuart E. Marsh, former ALRS Program Chair and now Director of the School of Natural Resources and Environment (SNRE)  excitedly informed us that Stefanie Herrman,SNRE Associate Research Scientist and ALRS 2006 graduate, along with ALRS graduate student Ibrahima Sall’s paper has received the Best Paper of Ecology and Society Award of 2014 (the selection is a result of the votes from the editorial board of the journal). The award was made based upon it being the most novel paper published in 2014 in Ecology and Society that integrates different streams of science to assess fundamental questions in the ecological, political, and social foundations for sustainable social-ecological systems

Stefanie currently holds a position with ECE working with Kamel Didan.

Ecology and Society is an electronic, peer-reviewed, multi-disciplinary journal devoted to the rapid dissemination of current research. Manuscript submission, peer review, and publication are all handled on the Internet. Software developed for the journal automates all clerical steps during peer review, facilitates a double-blind peer review process, and allows authors and editors to follow the progress of peer review on the Internet.

The journal seeks papers that are novel, integrative and written in a way that is accessible to a wide audience that includes an array of disciplines from the natural sciences, social sciences, and the humanities concerned with the relationship between society and the life-supporting ecosystems on which human wellbeing ultimately depends.

Best Paper Competition:

The best paper award recognizes novel ways of performing integrative science and policy research. A prize of 500 Euro and a place on the main index page of the journal will be awarded to the author(s) of the most novel paper that integrates different streams of science to assess fundamental questions in the ecological, political, and social foundations for sustainable social-ecological systems.

All peer-reviewed papers published during a year in Ecology and Society are considered for the award. The (associate) editors-in-chief of Ecology and Society compile a short list of about 10 papers after which the board of editors is invited to vote for their top 3.
