Simone Williams’ Research Gets USGS Grant Support And Will Be Presented At The AWRA National Conference

Arid Land Resource Sciences PhD student Simone Williams and her academic advisor, Professor Sharon B. Megdal, recently received a research grant for their project entitled “Diversifying Voices in Water Resources”.  The research project seeks to better understand diversity, equity, and inclusion in water-related dialogues and decision-making; to develop effective strategies to support improved participation from under-represented groups; and, to engage more diverse voices in water sector discourse. The project is being supported by the US Geological Survey (USGS) under its Section 104(b) student research grant program of the Water Resources Research Act. The Section 104(b) program supports small water-related research projects on topics of importance to the state of Arizona and the region. It is administered through the Water Resources Research Institute for Arizona, the WRRC. See useful program links below:

Simone’s research abstract that was submitted for consideration as an oral presentation at the American Water Resources Association (AWRA) Annual Conference has been accepted. On November 8, 2021, she will present preliminary findings from her research entitled “Recognizing and Addressing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Water Resource Dialogues” along with co-authors Sharon Megdal and Susanna Eden.
